It has been a good year (for me)

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

I’m going on vacation on the 18th and will be in the Pacific Northwest happily spending my days walking raining streets amongst sushi joints and tattoo parlors - both of which will see me frequently enough to know I am vacant and on vacation while reading up on 40K lore, video game production, and photography’s ethics…

I plan on sleeping in a lot.

I wanted to recap on the awesomness of ‘08 through my eyes without pictures before I rolled out:

1. I am engaged to the most amazing girl I have ever met in my life.

2. Photos I’ve taken for magazines, photos I’ve taken that’ve turned up as album covers, photos I’ve taken that’ve ended up on NPR sites without my permission - it has all happened this year. That’s pretty rad.

3. Vigil Games. The greatest studio I’ve ever been a part of. Fin.

4. Mohawk + Car Stereo (Wars) + Austinist + Alison Narro + Transmission Entertainment = you have all been so amazingly supportive in Austin it almost begs me to puke blood from my pores in order to thank y’all for such kind words and accolades.

5. Black Eyed Vermillion - you guys are badass.

6. Economic collapse - can my friends finally divorce themselves from their debts and make amazing things?

7. White Denim + Til We’re Blue or Destroy = keep doing amazing things

My one regret of ‘08

1. Dan, Baron, Dave, Adam, Laurel, Matt S, Gen, Cristina V, I haven’t forgotten about you, I am just the worst cell phone caller backer ever.

I’m 99% sure 4 people read this blog, but in full disclosure to them I am going to be starting a new project with my best friend Dan next year. Once a week you’ll find a handwritten note from me to him posted on alrightdan.com

I have to note for the record that I am the most candid with my fiance and Dan and I apologize in advance for any feelings that might or might not get hurt. My promise with these notes is to be as open and honest as possible.

To close, my favorite live band photo I took of 2008; Dark Meat @ Mohawk was one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen and I am biased and I fully accept that.

Fuck Yeah

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

I met Scream Club a few years ago at the Blunt Club in Tempe, AZ and was blown away by their passion for equality for people of all genders and sexual orientations and their sheer ability to accept people for who they are and, yes, I’ll say inner beauty.  We’ve kept in contact over the years and a chance meeting in Austin during SXSW produced this nice surprise I discovered last night:

We took a series of photos in my back yard on the Saturday of SXSW just for the sure fun of taking photos. I had no clue they’d end up as major promotional material let alone the cover to their upcoming album. For that alone Sarah and Cindy get a resounding FUCK YEAH.

Monotonix@ Mohawk

Friday, October 10th, 2008

What can you say about Monotonix playing at Mohawk last night? It was a blur. Not just a blur of moments and drinks ordered between songs but a blur of who was holding you up against the mass of dancing, shouting, screaming bodies who threw beer as if dollars had lost no cents as if we weren’t in a financial crisis and even if we were they at the end of the night screamed fuck you as they stamped on red river til ambulances shot down that long narrow road that leads to venues who’d quiver and die if an Israeli band brought their music out into the streets for 500+ to smash and bang and wail against all odds. But then again that’s why the Mohawk exists. Anything is possible.
